I don’t know if it was the strong appeal of tons of fried food, the fascinating ceremony of the red lanterns or the crackling fireworks, but for the first time since I moved to Johannesburg, I had the pleasure to see hundreds of people hanging around the street of the infamous Central Business District. The last Saturday we joined, unfortunately for just few hours, the celebrations of the Chinese New Year in the first Chinatown of the city.

Sarà stato il richiamo del fritto, il fascino della cerimonia delle lanterne o gli scoppiettanti fuochi d’artificio ma è la prima volta, da quando ci siamo trasferiti a Johannesburg, che vedo affollare le strade del famigerato Central Business District. Lo scorso sabato abbiamo partecipato, purtroppo solo per un paio di ore, ai festeggiamenti per il Capodanno Cinese tenuti nella prima Chinatown della città (che si può racchiudere in un paio di strade).

Ovviamente distratta dalla quantità di persone di culture e tradizioni diverse, dal cibo (cucinato in ogni modo: dal fritto al bollito passando per la griglia), dalla musica, ho tralasciato di prestare attenzione alle foto che via via andavo scattando. Il risultato non è dei migliori ma spero, almeno, di riuscire a rendere l’idea.

Because of I was distracted by people from all different customs and traditions gathering together, by the food (all types of cooking food was shown: fried, grilled and boiled), by music, I completed forgot to pay attention of what kind of picture I was taking. So result is: not many pictures and not a masterpiece. Anyway I hope to give you a kind of general idea.
