Even if the title is quite tricky I’m not going to talk about zoo, but street art. When I was living in Italy I never payed attention to street art or graffiti. To tell the truth I’m annoyed to see private and public buildings get dirty by someone who doesn’t have neither talent nor creativity. Often, you just see hideous drawing or writing, nothing pleasant. So, this is not the case. I’m going to show you some pieces of art. Most of them are big, beautiful and free. Not least, they bring colors and fun in disadvantage areas of the city. This is my personal selection of street art dedicated to the animals of the savannah (but not only).

No. Non voglio parlare di zoo. Ma di street art. Prima di trasferirmi a Johannesburg non mi ero mai interessata né alla street art né ai graffiti. Anzi ad essere sinceri ho sempre provato un enorme fastidio nei confronti di chi (pensando di essere un talentuoso artista) imbratta con inutili scarabocchi i muri delle case, i vagoni del treno, le serrande dei negozi, i monumenti, cadendo spesso in veri e propri atti di vandalismo. Ecco: non sto parlando assolutamente di nulla del genere. Ma di opere d’arte, grandi, belle, gratuite, fruibili da chiunque e soprattutto realizzate in zone svantaggiate. Dove, se non altro, aggiungono colore ed allegria. Questa è una piccola selezione di street art dedicata agli animali della savana (ma non solo) sparsi un po’ ovunque per la città.

Both of them have been realized for the City of Gold Festival. During the first week of October local and international artists have changed the look of walls or abandoned buildings.

Entrambi i pezzi sono stati realizzati la prima settimana di ottobre in occasione del City of Gold Festival. Durante la manifestazione artisti locali ed internazionali si sono avvicendati nel ridare un nuovo look a muri e a palazzi in disuso.

Talking about “Big Cats”, it was the end of September when the artist Sonny has set one tiger and one leopard free.

Era la fine di settembre, invece, quando sui tetti di Johannesburg l’artista Sonny ha liberato una tigre e un leopardo.

The last one of my personal savannah has been made two years ago, in September 2012, by artist ROA. The Facebook profile is unofficial but you can find a lot of his work. It’s still my favorite one.

Chiudo con un lavoro realizzato a settembre del 2012 dall’artista belga ROA. Il profilo Facebook che ho trovato non è ufficiale ma c’è una gran bella collezione dei suoi lavori. Rimane, ad oggi, uno dei miei preferiti.
